CRISPR/Cas9 has democratized gene editing through its relative ease of use and inexpensive implementation.  This review covers the basic science behind the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system and its applications beyond simple reverse genetics studies, including genome wide screening and the move to larger animal models.
